Turkish PM says it must develop defence industry
Azerbaijan, Baku, Dec. 29 / Trend A. Taghiyeva/
Turkey should expand projects to develop its defence industry and provide the country with the necessary military equipment made locally, Turkish TRT Haber TV channel quotes the country's Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan as saying on Thursday.
He cited Iran as an example of a country enjoying a developed defence industry manufacturing 2500 km range missiles.
"The range of Turkish missiles is 150 kilometres. Why shouldn't we create the same powerful system?" he said.
Mr Erdogan also noted that Iran manufactures military equipment and armoury independently from Europe and despite international sanctions. Turkey is also capable of manufacturing its own military equipment, he stressed.
