As informed experts predicted, Kazakh banker Mukhtar Ablyazov has suffered a serious defeat at his hearing in London, Moscow State University History Department Deputy Dean Alexei Vlasov said.

"There were symptoms of hardening positions of the court toward Mukhtar Ablyazov at the end of last year. Now you can talk about that at this stage come to an end and the victory won by Ak Orda a clear advantage," Vlasov told Trend.

"How much did Tony Blair and lobbyists to Astana in the West affect to this outcome? I do not think that this factor was decisive I do not think that this factor was decisive. Ablyazov talked a lot about "skeletons in the closet," of Kazakhstan's leadership, but it seems that his own sins outweighed" he said.

London's High Court rejected an appeal of several companies that allegedly implicated in the theft of over $1 billion from Kazakh BTA Bank and which had previously been denied the right for protection due to failure to implement the court decisions, RIA Novosti reported.

There are offshore companies registered in the Seychelles and the British Virgin Islands in the list of defendants in the suit of the bank in the proceedings with his former head Mukhtar Ablyazov.

The criminal case against Ablyazov was launched in Kazakhstan in early 2009. He is alleged to have conducted great fraud while in charge of the BTA Bank. After the case began Ablyazov fled to the UK claiming asylum against political persecution. Kazakhstan calls for his extradition on charges of fraud and large-scale withdrawal of funds of the bank through the shell companies.

In May 2011 the British court refused from recognizing claims that the case was politically motivated and upheld the bank's claims Vlasov said now the status of Ablyazov in the West will rapidly approach to the position of another fugitive - Rahat Aliyev.

Aliyev, the former head of secret service of the republic, who served as deputy foreign minister of Kazakhstan has become persona non grata in 2007. Nazarbayev's son-in-law was accused of the kidnapping the top managers of Kazakh Nurbank.

Aliyev has been deprived of diplomatic immunity, and the daughter of Kazakh President has filed for divorce.
