At least four members of the terrorist Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) have been killed in the southeast Turkish province of Şırnak close to the Syrian border in a sign of an escalation in fighting in the past few weeks between Turkish security forces and the terrorist organization, Today's Zaman reported.

Security forces detected a group of members from the outlawed organization on Thursday in Cizre district close to the Syrian border filled with land mines and demanded the group surrender. However, the group opened fire on security forces instead.

The clashes left four PKK members dead. Security forces suspect that the terrorists who were killed may have been high-level members of the PKK.
