Lithuanian diplomats resign after their conversation goes online

Two Lithuanian ambassadors Renatas Juska and Arturas Zhurauskas were summoned to the Foreign Ministry of Lithuania as the Ministry’s General Inspection began an investigation into the audio recordings of presumably their conversation made public on YouTube.com, Lithuanian news website Delfi reported with reference to BNS.

Two Lithuanian ambassadors Renatas Juska and Arturas Zhurauskas were summoned to the Foreign Ministry of Lithuania as the Ministry's General Inspection began an investigation into the audio recordings of presumably their conversation made public on YouTube.com, Lithuanian news website Delfi reported with reference to BNS.

Responding to a question on whether the letters of resignation of the two ambassadors have been obtained, Foreign Ministry spokesman Race Yakilaytene told BNS that "investigation is currently underway" and did not present any more detailed information.

It was reported earlier that the two diplomats, whose telephone conversation was made public, have resigned from the position of ambassadors - Ambassador of Lithuania to Hungary Renatas Juska and Lithuanian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Arturas Zhurauskas have written their letters of resignation.

The two diplomats are now on vacation. The Lithuanian Embassy in Azerbaijan told BNS that Zhurauskas is on vacation from July 15 to August 19, and in the Hungarian embassy told BNS that Juska is on leave from August 1.

Note that the recording of the telephone conversation between the two Lithuanian diplomats was posted on YouTube. The conversation took place on April 4 at 12:50.

During the conversation, the sides took a pro-Armenian position, expressing their thoughts on the Azerbaijani-Armenian relations.
