Russian President Dmitry Medvedev called for the killing of rebel fighters in the troubled Russian-controlled Caucasus region on Friday - two days after a suicide bomb attack killed six people in the autonomous republic of Dagestan, DPA reported.
"As far as these bandits are concerned, our policy remains the same: they have to be firmly and regularly annihilated," Medvedev was quoted by the state Ria Novosti agency at a meeting with secret service head Alexander Bortnikov.
Armed extremists must be "mercilessly liquidated," Medvedev added.
In the Dagestani city of Makhachkala on Wednesday, six people were killed and 24 injured in an attack on a police barracks.
Meanwhile on Friday, suspected Islamists killed a member of the Kremlin-loyal security forces in Makhachkala. The victim was shot at his front door, a spokesman for the government said.
The attack came after two militiamen had recently been killed in a police action in Dagestan.
Violence in the autonomous republics of Dagestan, Chechnya and Ingushetia has increased in recent months, as Muslim fundamentalists continue their fight for an independent Islamist state.
