Uzbekistan toughens struggle against drugs trafficking by vehicles

Uzbekistan, Tashkent, Dec. 29 / Trend , T.Zhukov/ Prime Minister of Turkmenistan Shavkat Mirziyayev signed a resolution on further improvement of control over entrance, exit and transit of foreign vehicles, the Government reported.

State Border Protection Committee of the National Security Service, the State Customs Committee and the Ministry of Internal Affairs are charged with strengthening control over entry and exit through the Oybek (Tashkent) and Andarhan (Ferghana region) check-points, Committee told Trend . Both check points are located on the Uzbekistan-Tajikistan border. They are also instructed to tighten control over transit of foreign vehicles.

Staff at border and customs check-points in Oybek and Andarhan will be doubled in accordance with Government's decision. Andarhan customs post will be further equipped with required technological equipment and technical supervision means.

State Customs Committee and the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations, Investments and Trade were instructed to buy scanners for customs posts. Scanners will be purchased through grant funds involved.

Government's resolution set new rates of customs duties for the passage of Tajik trucks through the customs territory of Uzbekistan. "After three days of stay of Tajikistan's trucks in Uzbekistan, the rate for every day is 70 dollars," the governmental document says.
