Russia, St. Petersburg, June 4 / special corr, Trend V.Ustinov /

Azerbaijan and Armenia continue to work to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the President of Armenia Serj Sargsyan briefed the media before the meeting with President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev.

"After our last meeting, we have been insistently working to solve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict," he said.

The meeting is takes place within the economic forum in St. Petersburg in the Konstantinovsky Palace.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan lost all of Nagorno-Karabakh except for Shusha and Khojali in December 1991. In 1992-93, Armenian armed forces occupied Shusha, Khojali and 7 districts surrounding Nagorno-Karabakh. Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group - Russia, France, and the U.S. - are currently holding the peace negotiations.

Sargsyan also thanked the Russian side for providing a $500 million loan, which he believes will help overcome the crisis in Armenia.
