U.S. administration supports Georgia: Speaker

Georgia, Tbilisi, June 10 / Trend , N.Kirtskhalia/

The new U.S. administration unequivocally supports Georgia, and will help enhance its security, Speaker of the Georgian Parliament David Bakradze said after the meeting with U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Philip Gordon.

"The United States reaffirmed the strong support of Georgia's territorial integrity and security. This assurance was clearly defined at a meeting with Gordon," he said.

Bakradze said that the U.S. is concerned about the actions of Russia in the occupied territories and attempts to legitimize the current situation. "We discussed the mission of the OSCE and the UN to which the United States position is clear - they must be deployed in Georgia and the mission has to be united," he said.

Bakradze said Gordon welcomed the ongoing reforms in the country in the wave of democracy. "He also clearly expressed a need to preserve the peaceful nature of opposition demonstrations," Bakradze said.
