President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and his spouse Mehriban Aliyeva have today attended a solemn ceremony to mark the 20th anniversary of the country`s National Olympic Committee.
President Ilham Aliyev addressed the event.
The Azerbaijani leader briefed the event participants on the history and development of sports in the country.
The Head of State said development of sports in Azerbaijan was associated with the name of national leader Heydar Aliyev.
President Ilham Aliyev congratulated the entire sport community and the Azerbaijani people on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the National Olympic Committee.
The President wished Azerbaijani athletes new successes.
Other speakers included member of the Executive Board of European Olympic Committee, President of the Slovenian Olympic Committee Janez Kocijancic and President of the International Federation of Associated Wrestling Styles (FILA) Raphael Martinetti. Janez Kocijancic presented a keepsake of the European Olympic Committee to President Ilham Aliyev on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the National Olympic Committee.
The ceremony also featured a concert programme.
