The Turkish intelligence service and police knew about the impending terrorist attack on the U.S. Embassy in Ankara and were vigilant, however, unfortunately, it could not be prevented, Turkish President Abdullah Gul said on Monday, Anadolu agency reported.

The Turkish intelligence service and police knew about the impending terrorist attack on the U.S. Embassy in Ankara and were vigilant, however, unfortunately, it could not be prevented, Turkish President Abdullah Gul said on Monday, Anadolu agency reported.

Gul said the intelligence service and police warned the state authorities of the country and representatives of foreign countries in Turkey.

An explosion took place on the entrance to the U.S. Embassy in Ankara on February 1. As a result, a security guard was killed, one visitor was injured. The organizer of the explosion, a member of the Turkish People's Liberation Party/Front Marxist terrorist group Ecevit Shanli was also killed.
