New service provider, Azerphone, agrees to start providing services in October 2006, Trend reports quoting Ali Abbasov, minister of Communication and IT of Azerbaijan.
At the moment, he said, the company is performing operations on establishing a network across Azerbaijan.
During this period, Azerphone will establish telecommunication network in Baku, Absheron peninsula, Ganja, Mingachevir, Alibayramli, Guba and so. Besides, mobile network will cover 10 area centers.
License for mobile services provision was issued to Azerphone JV Р±С‹Р"Р° December 28, 2005. The company founders are PA Aztelekom (10%), Siemens (30%) and two British companies (60%).
The main requirement of the project is to cover 85% of Azerbaijan with mobile network within 2 years. The founders are planning to invest some $300mn within this period.
