Singapore Airlines (SIA) kicked off a week of special A380 flights to Beijing on Saturday in the week leading up to the Olympic Games, reported dpa.

The inaugural superjumbo flight to China carrying 385 passengers and 25 crew left Changi Airport for Beijing's Capital International Airport.

Among those aboard were 12 athletes and 18 officials from the Singapore contingent to the Games.

"Over the next week, several hundred athletes from almost a dozen countries will fly the A380 to Beijing to compete," the SIA statement said.

Services will revert to the normally scheduled Boeing 777 aircraft after August 8.
