Azerbaijan, Baku, March / Trend , corr. N.Abdullayeva / The awarding ceremony of the "Man of the Year" award which is founded jointly by Chingiz Mustafayev Fund and the ANS Group of Companies was held on March 6. The winner of the award was Tahir Salahov, prominent Azerbaijani painter.
The President of the Fund, Vahid Mustafayev, presented Salahov the award, AZN 4000 cash prize, an "Omega B Ville" watch designed specially for him. In his turn, Salahov expressed warm gratitude, saying that Chingiz Mustafayev is a hero, personified honor, merit and talent. ""Man of the year" award is the greatest remedy for my heart," Salahov said.
Tahir Salakhov served in the Azerbaijan Artists Union, lectured at the Azerbaijan State University of Arts, Moscow State University, and served as the First Secretary of the USSR Union of Artists. In 1997, he was elected Vice-President of the Russian Academy of Arts and Vice-President of the UNESCO International Federation of Artists (IFA). His works "Morning Train", "Reservoir Park", "Women of Absheron", "Gara Garayev", Fikrat Amirov," Aidan" are visible results of his philosophical search. For his active creative work Tahir Salakhov was awarded the Azerbaijan Republic State Prize in 1965-70, the USSR State Prize in 1968, the Azerbaijan Republic Istiglal Order, and prizes in a number of countries worldwide.
"Man of the Year" was founded by Chingiz Mustafayev Fund and the ANS Group of Companies in 2001 to award people, distinguished for their great contribution to independence, prosperity and welfare of Azerbaijan. The winners of this award are Baku Mayor Hajibala Abutalibov (2001), ex-president Heydar Aliyev (2002, 2003), then Japanese Ambassador to Azerbaijan (2005), President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation, good-will Ambassador of UNESCO and ISISCO Mehriban Aliyeva (2005), head of Caucasus Muslims' Office Haji Allahshukur Pashazadeh (2006) and president Ilham Aliyev (2007).
