UNESCO will the next year mark the 200th anniversary of settlement of Germans in Azerbaijan, said Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov.
He made the remarks at a briefing following the talks with the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office and German Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Baku June 30.
The initiative was put forward by Azerbaijan, added Mammadyarov.
A project titled “German settlers in Azerbaijan” has been worked out, he said, adding that the Germans settled in Azerbaijan’s Tovuz, Astara and Ganja for the first time in 1817.
