Group of Azerbaijani Spetsnaz Cannot Receive Karabakh War Status

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. К.Zarbaliyeva / About sixty members of special police divisions cannot receive the status of Karabakh War veteran as they have no documents proving their participation in the Karabakh War.

Famil Suleymanov, the Chairman of the Committee Protecting Rights of Spetsnaz, stated to Trend Agency that former soldiers appealed to the Azerbaijani Interior Ministry regarding their documents, but they have not received a positive respond.

Passports and military documents that were sent have still not been returned to former soldiers. The Interior Ministry reported that their documents were lost by investigators of the Prosecutor General.

Suleymanov reported that presently, eleven former soldiers of the special police division have been kept under arrest. Four of them have been sentenced to life imprisonment. The state of two prisoners, Sakhavat Humbatov, who was sentenced to fourteen years in prison, and Akif Huseynov, who was sentenced to eleven years in prison, is severe.

Law-defenders of Humbatov and Huseynov, appealed to the Azerbaijani President regarding pardoning Humbatov and Huseynov. Eight members of Spetsnaz are under investigation.

Sakhavat Humbatov, Akif Huseynov, Nariman Ismaylov, Etibar Allahverdiyev, Niyazi Bayramov, Elchin Amiraslanov, Safa Poladov, Arif Kazimov, and Dayanat Karimov are included in the list of political prisoners presented to the EU.
