Azerbaijan’s export of tea down

The export of tea from Azerbaijan decreased from January through November 2021, Shahin Ismayilbayli, chairman of the Azerbaijan Tea Producers and Exporters Association, told Trend.

“The export volume of tea in monetary terms reached $7.7 million from January through November 2021, which is by $0.86 million less compared to the same period of 2020,” Ismayilbayli said.

The chairman added that Russia was the main importer of Azerbaijani tea in 2021.

“Small volumes were exported to Turkey and Georgia,” Ismayilbayli added.

According to the Azerbaijani State Customs Committee, approximately 1,008 tons of Azerbaijani tea were exported from January through November 2021, which is by 224 tons less compared to the same period of 2020. Some 1,232 tons of Azerbaijani tea were exported in 2021.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed an order in February 2018 approving the State Program for the Development of Tea Growing in the country for 2018-2027.

The state program was approved to develop tea growing, increase the export potential in this sphere and provide rural people with jobs.

The area of tea plantations was increased up to 3,000 hectares while the harvest of tea - to 8,500 tons as a result of the implementation of the state program.
