BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 26. A total of 143,000 tons of food wheat is planned to be produced in Azerbaijan in 2023, the Azerbaijani Economic Zones Development Agency told Trend on October 26.

According to the agency, in the next five years, as predicted, the area under crops will reach 100,000 hectares.

From January through September 2022, more than 152,000 tons of wheat were harvested in Azerbaijan, of which 88,800 tons fell on food wheat, 31,400 tons - of seed wheat, and 32,000 tons – of fodder, the agency said.

"The average productivity of wheat manufacturing in agricultural parks amounted to 3.7 tons per hectare. In a number of agricultural parks, the average yield of wheat and barley is six-seven tons per hectare (3.2 t/ha countrywide), corn - 12-15 t/ha (six t/ha countrywide), and sugar beet - 80 t/ha (43 t/ha countrywide)", the agency noted.

By the end of 2022, it’s planned to increase the area under wheat by 52 percent, to 33,000 hectares, added the agency.
