Azerbaijan, Baku, 23 May / Trend corr. S.Babayeva / The 4th and final spring monitoring to prevent bird flue, disclosed absence of the virus in the territory of Azerbaijan, the State Veterinary Service at the Agriculture Ministry of Azerbaijan, stated on 23 May.
"The virus was not revealed in any of 1365 samples collected during the monitoring," he said.
Monitoring covered the territories of Absheron Peninsula, Davachi, Salyan, Lankaran and Agjabadi. Monitoring was held by a special commission consisting of specialists from the veterinary service at the Ecology, Health Ministries.
This year, the State Service carried out three monitoring exercises. None of them revealed the virus. This year, four monitoring examinations were held over more than 7,000 samples from domestic and wild birds.
Last year, the State Service held 12 monitoring examinations over more than 8,000 samples from domestic and wild birds. None of them revealed the virus.
Prohibition of hunting, use and sale of wild birds in Azerbaijan still remains in effect. All Azerbaijani border veterinary check points work with the medium security to prevent the spread of bird flu.
The State Veterinary Service stated that, from December onwards, the monitoring will be held twice a month due to the risk of virus spread during the mass flow of the migrant birds.
