Kazakhstan buys of BTA Bank control packet of shares

Regarding worsening economic situation within last three months, the Kazakh government approved a proposal of the Agency on regulating and supervising over finance market and finance organizations to purchase a control stake package of BTA Bank Joint Stock Company (JSC), the bank said.

A purchase will be implemented through additional emission of 29,915,425 simple stakes at 8,401 tenge for each.

"The State Samruk-Kazina National Welfare Fund will buy all emissions and as a result, the bank will get an additional capital at 251,319,485 for 425 tenge," the bank reported on Feb. 2.

The government will support BTA Bank in future as the country's backbone financial institute.

"The government will provide BTA's participation in all state programs," the bank said with reference to Samruk-Kazina's Deputy Chairman Arman Dunayev said.

Dunayen was appointed as a member of the bank's Board of Directors. The Kazakh National Bank's former head Anvar Saydenov was an advisor of BTA Bank's Chairman Roman Solodchenko.

Despite shareholder's change, BTA Bank continues to carry out all obligations, issues loans to people and economy at an ordinary regime, as well as receives and pays deposits of individuals and companies.

"The financial institution's shareholders and management intends to preserve BTA Bank's leading status on at an interior banking system and take measures for its further development," the bank said.

The Bank has sufficient liquidity and continues to be a reliable partner for the state, its clients and foreign financial institutions.

The consolidated assets of BTA Bank JSC as for the third quarter of 2008 amounted to
3,671 billion tenge (30.6 billion dollars) loan portfolio has reached 2,814 billion tenge (23.5 billion dollars). The consolidated net profit of JSC as for the third quarter amounted to 35.2 billion tenge (293 million dollars).

In 2006 and 2007, BTA was named the leading financial experts Bank of the Year in CIS countries in accordance with the poll conducted by the authoritative magazine Results, and Best Bank in Central Asia international magazine Euromoney.
