Spring sowing area increases in Azerbaijan

As of the beginning of May, in Azerbaijan the spring sowing area totaled 211,500 ha, the State Statistics Committee reported. Compared with 2008, the total area decreased due to unfavorable weather conditions during planting.

During this period, the cultivated area of cereals (excluding corn) was 33,400 ha, potatoes - 48,200 ha, vegetables - 49,400 ha, cotton - 10,500 ha.

"The allocation of subsidies by the government for the grain producers led to a substantial expansion of grain sown area," - said the State Committee.
