Uzbek banks' assets slightly increase in first quarter

The total assets of Uzbek commercial banks amounted to 36.4 trillion sums in the first quarter of 2013, which is almost by 2 percent more than the total figure in 2012 (35.7 trillion sums), the Central Bank of Uzbekistan said on Tuesday.

The total assets of Uzbek commercial banks amounted to 36.4 trillion sums in the first quarter of 2013, which is almost by 2 percent more than the total figure in 2012 (35.7 trillion sums), the Central Bank of Uzbekistan said on Tuesday.

The total amount of loans directed to the real sector of the economy, increased from the beginning of the year by 2.9 percent - up to 21 trillion sums, the total volume of deposits attracted by banks of the republic increased by one percent - up to more than 23 trillion sums.

The aggregate bank capital rose by 1.6 percent - to 6.3 trillion sums as of April.1, 2012 in January-April.

The Uzbek banking system is represented by 29 commercial banks, including three state, four - with foreign capital, 13 - joint stock and 9 - private.

In 2012, the total assets of commercial banks increased by 30.2 percent to 35.7 trillion soums, the total loan portfolio by 30.5 per cent to 20.4 trillion soums, the aggregate bank capital by 24.3 percent to 6.2 trillion soums.

The official exchange rate is 2064.61 sum / $ 1 on April 30.
