Turkish ministry discloses launch date of Sivas-Ankara high-speed railway

High-speed railway, which will connect the Turkish provinces of Sivas, Yozgat, Kirikkale and Ankara, will be put into operation in 2019, Turkey’s Ministry of Transport, Maritime and Communications told Trend Oct. 26.

It was preciously expected that the construction will be completed in 2018, said the ministry.

The length of the Sivas-Ankara high-speed railway is 5,000 meters, according to the ministry. The construction work has been completed by 75 percent so far.

Currently, the length of high-speed railway lines in Turkey is 1,213 kilometers and construction of another 4,000 kilometers of railway lines continues.

Also, research is being conducted for the construction of additional 5,000 kilometers of railway lines.

The length of high-speed railway lines will be brought up to 10,000 kilometers in the country until 2023.

Turkey’s first railway was built in Izmir Province in 1860. Its length was 357 kilometers.
