Construction of Ankara-Bursa high-speed railway over 40% complete

The construction of a high-speed railway between Turkey’s Ankara city and the country’s western Bursa province has been completed by 45 percent, the Turkish Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications told Trend May 1.

According to the ministry, the construction of the 106-kilometer high-speed railway is planned to be completed at the end of 2019.

"So far, 1.210 billion Turkish liras have been spent for the project implementation,” the ministry said. “The total project cost is estimated at 5.6 billion Turkish liras."

Presently, the length of high-speed railway lines in Turkey is 1,213 kilometers and construction of 4,000 kilometers of railways is underway.

Research is also being conducted for the construction of additional 5,000 kilometers of railway lines.

Turkey’s first railway was built in Izmir province in 1860. Its length was 357 kilometers.
