Food prices up in Kazakhstan

Food prices in Kazakhstan rose by 6.7 percent in March compared to the same month last year, Trend reports via Kazakh media.

According to the Statistics Committee of the National Economy Ministry of Kazakhstan, bakery products and cereals, meat, fish and seafood, dairy products, eggs, oils and fats, sugar, confectionery, soft drinks and alcoholic beverages rose in price in the reporting period, while the price for fruits and vegetables decreased.

The prices for cereals changed diversely. In particular, the average price of rice in March was 327 tenge per kilogram (14 percent up year-on-year), while the price of buckwheat was 244 tenge (12 percent down).

At the same time, the average price of granulated sugar was at the level of 237 tenge per kilogram (18.5 percent up).

As of dairy products, the average price of cottage cheese was 1,561 tenge per kilogram (2.6 percent up year-on-year), sour cream - 1053 tenge (4.5 percent up), rennet cheese - 2 583 tenge (13.3 percent up), and pasteurized milk - 239 tenge (10 percent up).
