As many as 6.5 million tons of wheat have been purchased from farmers in Iran since the harvest season, Iranian Deputy Agriculture Minister and CEO of Iran’s Government Trading Corporation Yazdan Seif said, Trend reports via IRNA.
He said that this figure shows a 10 percent decline compared to the same period last Iranian year (started March 21, 2018).
He added that the cost of wheat purchased is 109 trillion rials (about $2.59 billion). “So far, 86 trillion rials (about $2 billion) of this amount have been paid to farmers,” he said.
In Iran, farmers sell their grown wheat to the government at the established prices.
