Over the first nine months of 2018, Azerbaijan produced 79,300 tons of raw cotton (without seeds), 51,500 tons of which were exported, Trend reports referring to the Ministry of Agriculture.
The country earned $78 million from the export of raw cotton, said the ministry.
During the same period, 17,000 tons of cotton yarn were produced in Azerbaijan, 6,800 tons of which tons were exported. As a result of the export of cotton yarn, the country earned $17 million.
“Cotton growing not only contributes to an increase in agricultural employment, improving the well-being of farmers, but also creates additional sources of foreign currency for the country,” the Ministry of Agriculture said.
