Iran's trade turnover with France has increased and decreased from time to time, Director General of Europe and America at Trade Promotion Organization of Iran, Behrouz Hosne Olfat told Trend.
According to Hosne Olfat, this can be linked to the processes taking place in the world in general, sanctions against Iran and other political and economic issues.
Hosne Olfat added that in general, Iran's trade with France should be divided into three periods.
The official said that the first period is 2010-2014, the second period is 2015-2018, and the third period is 2018-2020.
Hosne Olfat said that although the value of Iran's exports to France was $1.2 billion in 2010 and this figure increased to $2.48 billion in 2011. However, in 2014 the figure fell to $82 million.
The director general noted that during those 4 years, Iran mainly exported oils (mining oils, etc.), fruits and cookies, copper and related products, iron and steel, rubber and related products, carpets, tea, etc. to France.
According to the official, Iran's exports to France in the second period in 2015 amounted to $73 million.This figure increased to $1.84 billion in 2018.
Hosne Olfat said that Iran's exports to France amounted to $52 million last year (2019).
“As for Iran's imports from France, the value of Iran's imports from France fell from $2.36 billion in 2010 to $603 million in 2014,” he said.
"The value of imports increased from $624 million in 2015 to $1.7 billion in 2017," the official added.
The director general said that the value of Iran's imports from France fell from $1.02 billion in 2018 to $420 million in 2019.
“The imported products were mainly air vehicles, vehicles, medicines, mechanical equipment, electrical equipment, medical supplies, chemicals, steel and iron products, cosmetics and perfumes,” he noted.
The US imposed new sanctions on Iran in November 2018. Over the past period, the sanctions affected Iranian oil exports, more than 700 banks, companies and individuals.
