Kazakhstan to boost domestic computer equipment production

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Sept. 11

By Nargiz Sadikhova – Trend:

Kazakhstan will take measures to increase domestic production of computer equipment five-fold by 2024, Trend reports with reference to the press office of Kazakhstan’s prime minister.

In 2019, the volume of production of electronic products amounted to 44.5 billion tenges ($105.06 million), having increased by 35 percent compared to 2018.
Currently, the following types of products are manufactured: printed circuit boards, telecommunications equipment, electronic meters for water, heat, and electricity, modules for wireless data transmission, computers, digital video cameras, and radio stations.

To stimulate further growth of domestic goods in the electronics industry, additional measures of state support will be taken such as increasing offtake contracts with domestic manufacturers, introducing preferential loans for the purchase of domestically assembled computers through retail chains, allocating funds for R&D in the electronics industry, etc.

A goal has been set to bring the average annual production of the electronics industry by 2024 to 382.6 billion tenges ($9.03 billion) which will mean an increase of 8.5 times compared to the results of 2019.

The volume of electronics exports is to be increased by up to 45 billion tenges ($106.2 million).

Furthermore, by the end of 2020, nine local manufacturers will produce additional 606,000 computers to supply schools all across Kazakhstan. This includes 351,000 personal computers and 255,000 laptops.
