TEHRAN, Iran, August 20. Iran is planning to launch digital coupons pilot plan in late September, said the Deputy Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance Hadi Sobhanian, Trend reports citing Tasnim News Agency.

"The government seeks to provide infrastructures for the coupons that are being pursued by the Ministry of Cooperatives, Labour, and Social Welfare. Technical infrastructures for the project have been prepared and the plan will be launched to cover some social classes," he said.

Sobhanian pointed out that with the approval of the cabinet the pilot plan will be implemented from September 23.

The Iranian government has planned to offer citizens digital coupons that will allow them to access subsidized prices for essential goods such as bread, chicken, cheese, and vegetable oil while other commodities will be available at market rates.

The vouchers are to be used for fair distribution of rationed essential goods at subsidized prices.

Following the rise in bread prices, the authorities have increased laborers' and civil servants' salaries by up to 60 percent to compensate for the rise in consumer prices.
