BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 14. The volume of Iran's pomegranate exports increased by more than 100 percent, during the first eight months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through November 21, 2022), compared to the same period last Iranian year, Director-General of Agriculture Ministry’s Tropical and Subtropical Fruit Bureau Zahra Jalili Moqaddam said, Trend reports citing IRNA.

According to Jalili Moqaddam, Iran exported 7,500 tons of pomegranates to different countries in 8 months, while in the same period last Iranian year, the figure stood at 3,500 tons.

He also added that in total, the country exported 17,700 tons of pomegranates worth approximately $8 million last Iranian year (March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022).

“Overall, 1.2 million tons of pomegranates are expected to be harvested in Iran for the current Iranian year (March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022). Of the mentioned volume, 27 percent is expected to be harvested in Fars Province, 12 percent in Markazi Province, 10 percent in Razavi Khorasan and 10 percent in Yazd Province. The area of pomegranate orchards in the country is 90,000 hectares,” she said.

The official stressed that annual pomegranate consumption in Iran is about 10 kilograms per person.
