According to forecasts, the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) will complete the season of pumping gas into underground gas storage facilities in Azerbaijan by Nov.5 of 2010, a source in oil and gas market said today.

At present, there are two underground gas-holders, including Karadag and Kalmaz ones.

According to the source, at present the gas amount in underground gas storage facilities in Azerbaijan is 2.77 billion cubic meters, 1.35 billion cubic meters of which fall to Garadagh underground gas storage facility and the remaining 1.42 billion - to Kalmaz.

More than 1.13 billion cubic meters of gas of the total amount available in underground gas storage facilities remained from last year. SOCAR pumped about 1.64 billion cubic meters of gas during the season of pumping gas into underground gas storage facilities.

"According to forecasts, the process of gas pumping into gas storage facilities should be completed Nov.5," the source said. However, according to the source, the process may delay until Nov.15.

As the source said, if the pumping process completes by Nov.15, the amount of gas in underground gas storage facilities can reach three billion cubic meters.

In 2010, the amount of gas reserves in underground facilities in Azerbaijan will amount to three billion cubic meters. Last year this figure was at about two billion cubic meters compared to 1,4 billion cubic meters in 2008.

According to SOCAR, 507.7 million cubic meters of gas were pumped last year into Karadag underground gas storage facility, and in Kalmaz - 794.9 million cubic meters.
