Azerbaijan, Baku, Dec. 6 / Trend /

JSC Azerenergy (electricity production and distribution in Azerbaijan) conducted a repair of two energy units of thermal power plants in Shirvan, Azerenergy said today.

Major repairs were carried out on the first energy unit, and medium repair was carried out on the unit No. 2, Azerenergy said.

Shirvan Power Plant consists of seven units with capacity of 150 MW each and is the first open station in Europe. Given the fact that  the station has been in operation since 1962, its equipment is outdated.

Therefore, as the report says, with a view to ensuring the country's energy security, at present works are underway on a new power plant "Janub" with a total capacity of 780 megawatts in the Shirvan city. The plant will operate with three types of fuel - black oil, diesel fuel and gas. The new plant in the future will strengthen the energy security of the Absheron Peninsula and Azerbaijan's southern region.
