SOCAR prepares to open new gas stations in Baku

SOCAR Petroleum intends to commission two new gas stations in Azerbaijan in the near future, a source in the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), which is one of cofounders of retailing company, said on Monday.

According to the source, at present, six gas stations operate under SOCAR brand in Azerbaijan, and work continues on construction of new gas stations.

"Two gas stations are almost ready and will soon be put into operation," the source said.

The source said one station is located in the Alat settlement, the second on the Baku-Sumgait highway.

In total SOCAR intends to open 26-30 gas stations in Azerbaijan. Investments in gas station construction hit 20 million manat..

SOCAR Petroleum shareholders are: SOCAR (51 percent) and the American A.P. International (49 percent). SOCAR Petroleum was registered on Jan. 21, 2008.

At present, SOCAR has more than 50 gas stations in Georgia, gradually opens gas stations in Ukraine, and is also working on opening gas stations in Romania.
