Environmental department of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) has begun an inventory of greenhouse gases. This will be performed as part of "Plan to reduce the amount of by-product gases in the SOCAR and the projects in which the company participates", as well as "SOCAR strategies to reduce the impact on climate change", the company said on Wednesday.
The company also joined the process of identification and utilization of hazardous substances, regulated by the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants. Azerbaijan is a member of the convention.
To this end, an inventory of persistent organic pollutants (polychlorinated biphenyl) has started at the facilities belonging to SOCAR, its operating companies and joint ventures.
After the completion of a monitoring, to be carried out by the environmental department, a report based on its results will be prepared.
