Domestic investment in energy sector of Turkey increases by 40 per cent

Turkey's domestic investment in the energy sector of the country in the period from January to May 2012 amounted to 545.1 lira, the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of Turkey said on Wednesday.

Some 173.8 million lira was invested in the energy sector in May 2012 compared to 123.8 million lira in April 2012.

The bulk of investments (about 94 per cent) were invested by the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of Turkey, its subdivisions and the Turkish Electricity Distribution Corporation TEDAŞ.

Some 53.19 per cent of total investments (289.9 million lira) in January-May was invested in energy, 40.88 per cent (222.8 million lira) - in the mining sector, 3.26 per cent (17 million lira) - processing , 1.44 per cent (7.8 million lira) - transportation and 0.51 per cent (2.7 million lira) - socio-technical studies.

In May 2012, the majority of investments (163 million lira) had been invested in the Turkish Petroleum Corporation TPAO.

Some 86 million lira was invested in the electricity corporation (EÜAŞ), Electricity Transmission Company (TEİAŞ) - 146 million lira, Electricity Distribution Corporation (TEDAŞ) - 65 million lira, corporation for exploration and exploitation of mineral resources (MTA) - 31 million lira and the company on the transit of oil and gas (BOTAS) - eight million lira.

Official exchange rate on Aug. 22 is 1,7900 TRY/USD.
