Azneft production union of Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR has commissioned two wells on the offshore platform #10 of the Gunashli field after overhaul.

"After overhauling the platform, damaged as a result of the fire in December 2015, wells are being repaired and put into operation,” Azneft said in a message Dec. 6. “Thus, wells #185 and #186 have been commissioned."

SOCAR will additionally produce 60.23 million cubic meters of gas, 1,800 tons of condensate and 36,140 tons of oil annually through commissioning these wells.

Gunashli field plays an important role in Azerbaijan’s oil and gas industry. The field’s shallow part is developed by SOCAR on its own, while its deep-water part is developed jointly with foreign partners.

SOCAR produced 6.2 million tons of oil at Azerbaijan’s offshore and onshore fields in January-October 2017 as compared to 6.32 million tons in the same period of 2016.

Along with SOCAR, foreign companies also extract oil in Azerbaijan. In total, 41.03 million tons of oil were produced in Azerbaijan in 2016 as compared to 41.58 million tons in 2015, according to SOCAR.

SOCAR includes such production associations as Azneft (enterprises producing oil and gas onshore and offshore), Azerikimya (chemical enterprises) and Azerigas (distributor of gas), as well as oil and gas processing plants, service companies, and the facilities involved in geophysical and drilling operations.
