A 100 kilowatt solar power plant with the financing of 10 billion rials (about $238,000) has been commissioned in the Rafsanjan Labor Higher Education University in Kerman province, Iranian MP Alireza Mahjoob said, Trend reports referring to IRNA.

Mahjoob said that 1 kilowatt-hours of electricity produced from crude oil and gas costs 6,070 rials (about $ 0.14). However, it is possible to buy 1 kilowatt-hours of electricity produced by solar panels for 4,000 rials (about $0.04), he noted.

“The work has started as part of the second phase of this project, which envisages production of 500 kilowatts of electricity, and will be commissioned in the near future with the financing of 50 billion rials (about $1.19 million),” he added. “The production capacity as part of the third phase of the project will be 1 megawatts, and in the future it will be possible to produce 20-30 megawatts of electricity in this university.”
