After the discussions held between Iranian officials, it was decided that the price of petrol will remain at 10,000 rials ($0.23 at official exchange rate, $0.06 in black market), said Behrouz Nemati, spokesperson for the Iranian parliament, Trend reports referring to ILNA.

According to Nemati, no quotas will be put on petrol and it will be possible to purchase petrol with fuel cards.

Nemati added that the fuel cards are being reinstated so as to prevent the smuggling of Iranian fuel.

The Iranian Oil Ministry has denied the recent reports of quotas being put on petrol and of the rise in petrol prices.

The project on the efficient use of fuel in Iran was carried out between 2007 and 2015. To this end, all cars in Iran were provided with a smart fuel card, which the drivers could use in all filling stations.
