Official: COVID-19 postponed implementation of renewable energy projects in Kazakhstan

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Aug.25

By Nargiz Sadikhova - Trend:

The COVID-19 pandemic has negatively affected implementation of renewable energy projects (RES) in Kazakhstan, Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Energy told Trend.

The ministry official said that in this regard the issue of extending the existing agreements with the Financial Settlement Center of Renewable Energy LLP was brought up at a meeting of the State Commission for Ensuring the Emergency State.

“A decision to provide for an extension of the deadline for submitting a copy of the notification on construction and installation work start and (or) a copy of the acceptance certificate for the facility for the use of RES for term not exceeding one calendar year was made for energy producing organizations that use RES and have valid purchase agreements by the Financial Settlement Center of Renewable Energy LLP,’” the ministry official said.

The ministry official noted that the projects, the launch of which was planned in the first half of 2020, were postponed for the second half 2020.

“Temporary restriction and suspension of entry permits for foreign specialists also influenced the timing of construction work. The closure of the border has led to difficulties in the supply of imported components and equipment. At the same time, work is underway to establish the issuance of permits to foreign specialists and to solve issues on equipment supplies with authorized state bodies of Kazakhstan,” the ministry official said.

The ministry official added that by the end of the year 13 RES facilities with a total capacity of 262.53 MW are to be commissioned country-wide.
