A draft law "On the efficient use of energy resources and energy efficiency", prepared in the framework of measures related to energy efficiency, is also under consideration, Trend reports referring to the Ministry of Energy in Azerbaijan.

According to Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov, the adoption of the law will create a legal mechanism for the efficient use of energy using modern energy efficiency tools.

"In addition, a National Action Plan for Energy Efficiency was developed with the support of specialized international organizations. The plan is aimed at ensuring efficiency in various sectors of the economy, including the energy sector," the minister said.

The minister said that the development of the "Strategy for the long-term development of the energy sector of Azerbaijan" continues.

"The document, prepared for the first time and covering the period up to 2050, reflects such areas as electricity, gas supply, heat supply, energy efficiency, the use of renewable energy sources, low-carbon transport and an analysis of the strategic directions of the energy sector development under various scenarios," Shahbazov said.

The minister noted that new draft laws of Azerbaijan "on energy" and "on gas supply" are also being developed within the framework of the formation of the legislative base.

“Among the strategic goals of the reform process, an important place is occupied by the creation of a regulator that ensures the sustainability and efficiency of regulation in the energy sector. In this aspect, the Energy Regulatory Agency with the status of a public legal entity subordinate to the Ministry of Energy for three years carried out activities based on ensuring a balance of interests of the state, consumers, and regulated entities in the field of electricity and heat, as well as gas supply, a modern approach to each consumer, based on principles such as objectivity, transparency, and accountability," Shahbazov added.

"From August 2020, the Agency began monitoring the process of state inspection of gas meters in the Metrology Department of Azerigaz, which is considered important from the point of view of protecting consumer rights," the minister summed up.
