New oil and gas exploration wells to be drilled in Iran

As many as 5 exploration wells will be drilled in the oil and gas fields in Iran over the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2020, to March 21, 2021), an official of National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) Mohammad Nasseri said, Trend reports citing Shana news agency.

According to him, there are a number of plans in this regard.

The official added that certain operations are currently being carried out on 6 exploration wells in Iran.

Nasseri also said that furthermore, the concreting operations are being carried out around Namavaran 1, Namavaran 2, and Tango wells in the Khuzestan Province (southwestern Iran).

“A number of operations are being carried out in the Parsabad County of Ardabil Province (northwestern Iran) for drilling of the Ortadagh well,” he noted.

The official emphasized that the concreting operations are also being carried out around the Hirkan well in the Gomishan County of the Golestan Province (northeastern Iran).

Nasseri noted that several operations are being carried out in the Firuzabad County of Fars Province (southwestern Iran) for drilling of the Shahini well.

Iran has 125 oil fields and 59 gas fields. The country's total hydrocarbon reserves are estimated at 836 billion barrels. With available technology and equipment, Iran can extract 239 billion barrels. Thus, 29 percent of the country's hydrocarbon reserves are recoverable, while 71 percent remain underground.
