By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:

With the start of gas supplies from Azerbaijan to Europe via the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), the throughput capacity of the Trans Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) will rise to 12.2 billion cubic meters in 2021, Trend quotes TANAP General Manager Saltuk Duzyol as saying.

“Indeed, TANAP was ready for gas supplies to Europe for more than a year. With the start of gas deliveries to Europe, TANAP’s throughput capacity will rise to 12.2 billion cubic meters, including the gas to be delivered to Turkey and in 2022, TANAP will reach its full capacity of 16 billion cubic meters,” he told Turkish media.

Duzyol noted that TANAP’s capacity can be increased to 31 billion cubic meters per year by building additional compressor stations.

“It will give Turkey an opportunity to get additional 15 billion cubic meters of gas in the case of necessity,” he added.

Some 3.7 billion cubic meters of gas were supplied to Turkey via TANAP from January through October 2020.

About 7.6 billion cubic meters of gas were supplied to Turkey via TANAP from June 30, 2018, through October 1, 2020.

The Southern Gas Corridor comprises the following four projects: (i) operation of Shah Deniz natural gas-condensate field ("SD1" project) and its full-field development ("SD2'" project), (ii) the operation of the South Caucasus Pipeline ("SCP" project) and its expansion ("SCPX" project), (iii) the construction of the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline ("TANAP" project) and (iv) the construction of the Trans Adriatic Pipeline ("TAP" project) (SD2, SCPX, TANAP and TAP collectively, the "Projects").

The Projects have an estimated investment cost of approximately $40 billion. Upon completion, the SD2 project will add a further 16 bcm of natural gas per annum to 10.9 bcma (maximum production capacity) already produced under SD1 project.

Total length of the newly constructed SCPX, TANAP and TAP pipelines will be more than 3,200 kilometres.
