By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:

The capacity of the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), the European leg of the Southern Gas Corridor, which transports Azerbaijani gas to Europe, will be expanded in line with evolution of supply-demand trend, Trend reports with reference to TAP AG consortium.

“TAP is in full operational phase. It has transported nearly 3 billion meters cubes of gas to date and started in May the binding phase of the market test for the expansion of transport capacity. This is a regulated process through which shippers will be able to submit their offers in view of capacity expansion of the pipeline up to 20 billion cubic meters per year,” said the consortium.

Luca Schieppati, Managing Director of TAP noted that TAP has offered a safe and reliable transport service to shippers. “It is possible to expand the capacity of TAP in several stages, in line with the evolution of the supply and demand trend. It is a significant opportunity, especially for the countries of Southeastern Europe to achieve their respective goals of decarbonization.”

As the European section of the Southern Gas Corridor, TAP has the capacity to transport approximately 10 billion cubic meters of gas per annum (bcm/a) to several markets in Europe. The pipeline is also designed with the potential to expand its throughput capacity up to 20 bcm/a.

As a key part of the Southern Gas Corridor, TAP is strategically and economically important to Europe and essential in providing reliable access to a new source of natural gas. TAP plays a significant role in boosting Europe’s energy security, supply diversification, as well as decarbonisation objectives.

TAP’s shareholding is comprised of bp (20%), SOCAR (20%), Snam (20%), Fluxys (19%), Enagás (16%) and Axpo (5%).
