Azerbaijan doubles natural gas imports from Turkmenistan

ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, March 29. Azerbaijan purchased a total of over 161.3 million cubic meters of natural gas from Turkmenistan in January this year, Trend reports.

The data of the Azerbaijan's State Statistical Committee shows that during the specified month, the volume of natural gas purchases from Turkmenistan exceeded 2.5 times the figure of the same month in 2023, which amounted to almost 64.4 million cubic meters.

In economic terms, Azerbaijan's natural gas imports from Turkmenistan in the first month of this year totaled almost $24.2 million, 2.7 times more than in January 2023, when they totaled around $9 million.

Furthermore, all of the natural gas imported by Azerbaijan in January of this year came from Turkmenistan.

Meanwhile, Azerbaijan imported approximately 1.51 billion cubic meters of natural gas from Turkmenistan in 2023, a 77 percent increase from 857 million cubic meters in 2022.

Azerbaijan's natural gas imports from Turkmenistan totaled $218.22 million in value last year, 96.8 percent more than in the same period in 2022, when they were $110.87 million.
