The turnover on payment cards through ATMs and POS terminals in Azerbaijan amounted to 3.04 billion manat ($1.78 billion) from January through August 2021, which is 22.5 percent or 558 million manat ($328.2 million) more compared to the same period of 2020, Trend reports referring to the statistical report of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA).
The CBA said that the given figure was 2.5 billion manat ($1.47 billion) in the same period of 2020.
According to the report, the total number of transactions on payment cards amounted to 29.8 million manat or $17.5 million (an increase of 44.2 percent over the year), including 3.44 million transactions worth 186 million manat ($109.4 million) were carried out abroad.
“Over the reporting period, 25.6 million transactions worth 2.8 billion manat ($1.64 billion) were carried out on debit cards (both within the country and abroad), of which 8.2 million transactions worth 1.87 billion manat ($1.1 billion) were carried out through ATMs inside the country, and through POS terminals within the country – 7.2 million transactions worth 333 million manat ($195.8 million),” the CBA said.
“With credit cards (both within the country and abroad), bank customers carried out 4.17 million transactions totaling 208 million manat ($122.3 million). At the same time, 355,000 transactions worth 54 million manat ($31.7 million) were carried out through ATMs within the country, and 2.26 million transactions for 92 million manat ($54.1 million) - through POS terminals,” according to the report of the Central Bank.
From January through August 2021, the number of payment cards in Azerbaijan increased by 1.5 million units or 17.1 percent on annual basis and exceeded 10.2 million. A year earlier, this figure was 8.8 million units.
