Azerbaijani minister: "People's computer" project will be extended to pupils, students and educators

The Azerbaijani government and its partners decided to extend the "People's computer" project not only to teachers, but also to pupils, students and other educators, Azerbaijani Communications and IT Minister Ali Abbasov said.

Baku hosts "Day of innovation" event organized by Microsoft Azerbaijan, Communications and IT Ministry of Information Technology, Education Ministry with the support of HP, Bestcomp and Ultra June 30.

Abbasov said now only 12 computers account for 100 people in Azerbaijan and the project creates the conditions to increase this figure.

About 8,000 computers were sold under the first pilot project for teachers. They were allocated under an interest-free loan for a reduced (40 percent) rates.

"This project is very important and will create conditions for extending it to other areas," Abbasov said.

The project is implemented by HP and Microsoft. Bestcomp Group is a supplier company.

Computers proposed under the project are provided for teachers in secondary educational institutions and are sold on an interest-free loan for up to 12 months and costs by 25-40 percent below market value.
