Azerbaijan, Baku, Dec. 6 / Trend H.Valiyev /

The Baku Telephone Communications Production Unit will increase the number of broadband ports in its network to over 200,000, General Director Beytulla Huseynov said today.

He said the figure already exceeds 100,000 today.

"According to our strategy for 2011, we will purchase new telecommunications equipment to increase the number of ports and increase the number of broadband Internet users," Huseynov said.

He added that no problems have been observed as of yet with connecting to ADSL services, as 25 private service providers operate in addition to the production unit's network infrastructure.

Regarding IP-TV services, he said such services, which were introduced thanks to the country's transition to the Next Generation Network (NGN), are also in demand among users.

"The main advantage of NGN is that more multimedia services can be offered to subscribers with a single telephone line," he said. "This service is used today by over 1,000 broadband Internet subscribers. We have prepared a plan to increase the use of IP- technologies throughout the production unit's network infrastructure this year."
