Azerbaijan, Baku, Dec. 29 / Trend H. Valiyev /

The number of broadband connections provided by the state internet service provider AztelekomNet is about 20,000, Aztelekom Director General Mahammad Mammadov said.

Mammadov said in general, in the country's regions, the figure has reached 60,000 units, with the same number of connections falling in the capital's telecommunications infrastructure.

"Of course, this figure cannot be called significant for today. But with the development of economy, it is gradually increasing. Today, most transactions are based on global network base. According to our estimates, in 2011, growth in the broadband market will be approximately 40 percent," Mammadov said.

In Azerbaijan, work is underway for the development of broadband Internet during 2011-2013, under which, development of infrastructure for multimedia services as well as increasing content services (banking services, e-commerce, etc.) will be carried out.

Tariff reduction was also found to play an important role in the development of broadband Internet in the country.
