Azerbaijan, Baku, Feb. 20 / Trend H.Valiyev /
Options for the temporary location of the University of Information Technologies are being considered and this issue will probably be resolved in the near future, the Minister of Communications and Information Technologies Ali Abbasov said.
The head of state signed a decree on the establishment of the University of Information Technologies in early February. The decree notes it is established in accordance with the presidential decree of January 16, 2013 to declare the year 2013 as the 'Year of ICT' in Azerbaijan.
This is being given due to the increasing use of new technologies in the economic and social development of the country and in different areas of daily life, as well as forming highly qualified human resources for creation of an information society.
"Classes at the university should begin as early as September 2013. Admission will be limited, therefore all the necessary conditions will be created for the start of term in the 2013 academic year, the minister said, adding that later on the university will be transferred to a new, modern building."
According to Abbasov, the establishment of an IT university is important in terms of meeting the country's need for skilled IT professionals.
"Requirements for the specialists in this field are changing so dynamically that this issue cannot be solved by completing studies at universities of other countries. Therefore, it was decided to set up the university meeting the growing needs of the country in highly skilled IT cadres," the minister said.
