The Ministry of Justice of Azerbaijan is preparing for the introduction of blockchain technologies and SMART contracts in the housing and public utilities sector, Chairman of the Azerbaijan Internet Forum (AIF) Osman Gunduz told Trend Oct. 23.

Gunduz noted that a meeting has been organized today, where information has been provided about the data systems and electronic services rendered by various structural units of the ministry.

"The ministry currently renders over 30 electronic services, in particular about 15 data systems and registries are available. Among them, the registries of electronic notary, electronic courts, penitentiary service, the information systems of non-governmental organizations, the registry of population, etc. can be mentioned," Gunduz said.

The AIF chairman noted that the ministry’s plans include, among other things, the implementation of a project related to notarization of electronic documents.

"We were especially attracted by the fact that the ministry is interested in the introduction of the blockchain technology. It was announced that in the future SMART contracts will be introduced in the public utilities (water, gas and electricity) sector," Gunduz said.

In the world practice, the chairman of the AIF said, the blockchain technology is successfully used in every sphere where a registry is formed. Gunduz believes there are industries where the use of blockchain technology is particularly important.
